Technology can be your slave or your master. How can you tell when the role is reversing and no longer in your favor? That’s what Verge.com asked ten entrepreneurial experts, including myself. My advice? If the internet goes down and nobody in your company can do their job, you’re relying too much on tech. There should still be some aspects of your job, even a sliver, that you can do without Wi-Fi.
Other signs include automation totally taking over personal interaction (it’s a tool, not an alternative). If you start losing business because of tech problems, that’s a big red flag. Of course, if not even you “get” or understand your business because you’re drowning in tech, you need to make some adjustments immediately.
“High level decision making” should still be made by humans, not machines—although you can use technology to help you make the best decisions. If you’re not talking with people in order to make sells, tech has clearly taken over. Can’t remember the last time you met with or talked on the phone with a client? That’s an issue.
From “let’s buy more tech!” becoming your go-to response to pinging a colleague who’s sitting next to you, there are many signs that tech has gone too far.
